My husband and I just spent our 10th anniversary in Jamaica we had the most wonderful time. Besides running off with a local jamaican for half the day with was probably the highlight of the trip(friends we met down there were a little concerned) We had the time of our life we are all ready planning another trip there, this time with the kids(6,7,18) I think It is a wonderful place, we stayed all inclusive the last time, I think we will look for a villa, or something out of the way the next time. I have never met such nice people. David if your out there thanks. can't wait to return.
I LOVE IT IN JAMICA
Great comments about adventures in Jamaica. We are going on our first (honeymoon)trip to Jamaica on Jan 10 for 10 days, visiting Negril,Montego Bay, and Ocho Rios. We are looking forward to the trip. We haven't booked our accommodations (airfare already handled) yet, but are very close to deciding. If anyone can comment on accommodations for $100 or less per day, please let us know. So far, we have narrowed our choices as follows: Ocho Rios-Sand Castles and Comfort Suites; Montego Bay- Toby Inn.
I RENTED A VILLA FOR A MONTH IN JAMAICA WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS TWO SUMMERS AGO. I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE COUNTRY, THE POEPLE AND THE CULTURE. SIX MONTHS LATER I FLEW TO JAMAICA AND BOUGHT A 3 BEDROOM PENTHOUSE IN OCHO RIOS. THE BALCONY HAS THE MOST SPECTACULAR VIEWS OF THE SEA, WHITE SANDY BEACH, POOL AND MOUNTAINS. THE COMPLEX HAS EVERYTHING YOU NEED AND MORE PLUS IT IS JUST A FEW MINUTES WALK ALONG THE BEACH TO DOWNTOWN OCHO RIOS.
MY FAMILY LOVES IT AND IT HAS SOMETHING TO OFFER FOR ALL AGE GROUPS. PLUS ITS NICE TO HAVE ALL THE COMFORTS OF HOME AND NOT HAVE TO EAT 3 MEALS OUT EVERY DAY. I NOW RENT IT FOR $1,000 - $1,200/WEEK WHICH IS QUITE INEXPENSIVE WHEN YOU COMPARE IT TO A HOTEL!
I AGREE WITH OTHER COMMENTS THAT JAMAICAN IS NO FUN IF YOU GO THERE WITH "TOURIST" STAMPED ON YOUR FORWARD. THE ALL INCLUSIVE RESORTS MAKE IT EASY FOR YOU BUT THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE REAL JAMAICA. PLUS YOU WILL BE HASSELED BY THE JAMAICANS WHEN THEY SEE YOU BEING DRIVEN AROUND IN THOSE LITTLE TOURIST BUSES. JAMAICA IS BEST WHEN YOU RENT A VILLA OR CONDO AND LIVE AMONG THE JAMAICANS. RESORTS ARE FOR THE TIMID...BE ADVENTUROUS AND ABSORB THE CULTURE. ALSO, A WEEK IS NOT LONG ENOUGH!
We just returned from Tralawney Beach Resort in Jamaica and it was terrific! My daughter was married there and the resort took care of every detail. There were twelve people in our group including children. Tralawney is an all ages resort where the staff would like for you to take home pleasant memories and a true laid-back feeling. If you travel anywhere with pre-conceived notions as to what you will get for your money...stay home.
ME, MY WIFE AND DAUGTHER JUST RETURNED BACK FROM A TRIP TO MONTEGO BAY JAMAICA. WE STAYED AT THE WYNDHAM ROSE HALL RESORT WE HAD A WONDERFUL TIME. THIS IS OUR 3RD. TIME IN JAMAICA-TWICE IN OCHES RIOS.
THIS TRIP WE TRAVELED ALL OVER THE ISLAND. OUR MOST ENJOYABLE TRIP WAS THE BLUE MOUNTAIN AREA WHERE COFFEE IS GROWN, THAT WAS QUITE AN EXPERIENCE. WE FOUND THE PEOPLE VERY FRIENDLY, THE MEN SEEM MORE FRIENDLIER THAN THE WOMEN.
WE PLAN TO GO BACK TO JAMAICA AGAIN. ALSO WE USED JAMAICA AIR LINES FOR THE FIRST TIME AND WE FLY ALL THE TIME, THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST FLIGHTS WE HAVE EVER FLOWN ON.
JAMAICA......KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
I'm glad it was you paying the money for this "Superclub". I enjoyed watching the happening from my wonderful suite at the Montego Bay Club across the road. They, by the way, treat you well. They upgraded us from a studio out back to a 1 bedroom overlooking the beach for one month at no extra cost because some other people wanted to be together. Better luck next time and Jamaica has been wonderful to us for the past 15 years.
I think you read too much between the lines. I stated that Jamaica was great in my article. I loved the snorkeling, probably the funnest thing I have ever done. The people were really fun, I hung out in the local bars in Montego Bay, no problem there. My only gripes were with the hotel. Breezes sucks, and superclubs shouldn't even advertise (even at a discounted rate) that they have a world class resort until it is ready -- it is inexcusable. You are right, it is very difficult to water bottled beer, they never served bottled beer!!!!! The only beer they had was on tap. I drank plenty of that with no effect. I went to another bar down the street and got plenty buzzed off of 3 "bottled" beers.
What is the problem with taking a discounted vacation package? Are you in favor of paying top dollar everywhere you go? I had my travel agent scouting for good deals to Jamaica, and had heard good things about Superclubs, so why not -- they are supposed to be reputable, right? The entire resort was not under construction, just the one guy banging on a cement wall. He could have changed his schedule slightly to allow people who wanted to sleep a little comfort. It's not like I took the cheapest no name resort I could find. If I had, I would have taken my medicine.
Go to Jamaica, have fun, avoid the Breezes at any cost.
I think that you have the right to be upset. I'm sure that you spent a lot of cash for an "exclusive" vacation, and didn't get your money's worth. However, i noticed that all of your problems occurred at "breezes", and not outside. Did you not know that the resort was still under construction when you booked it? I'm sure that you received a discounted rate because of this. Let me tell you what the causes of your problems were. Breezes was not ready for occupation. The staff was new, was not trained, and the time was not taken to screen them before they were hired. Management was new, cheap and unqualified. This was because of greed. Not the least of which was yours for taking this cheap package. There are many cheap places that you could have gone to that are indeed excellent. They have had many years of experience to weed out the bad workers and iron out the "bugs". Your accusation of "drink watering" may be true, and if so must have been noticed by all of the guests. I don't know how you water down a bottle of beer however. If i were you, i wouldn't go back to breezes either, as they obviously didn't know what the hell they were doing. I don't see how you can make a blanket statement about the entire island however. Your attitude puts your complaint into another light. I hope that your report does not prevent others from exploring Jamaica, at least from a different resort.
